Project Overview

1.

Challenge: Mixed-use occupancy separation between sections A-3 and R-1 in compliance with the 2015 Virginia Building Code.

2.

Solution: A 2-hour fire barrier with a side-coiling fire door to separate these areas from foundation to roof underside.

3.

Design Flexibility: The side-coiling door met fire code requirements without compromising the open design.

4.

Egress: No egress through the assembly was needed, as travel distances to exits in each space were within code limits.

The side-coiling fire door on this project provides a robust 3-hour UL10B fire rating, which exceeds the required 2-hour fire barrier wall rating. Perfect for limited side room spaces, the door coils compactly next to the opening, preserving the architectural flow while offering enhanced fire protection for added safety and peace of mind.
